Ofsted Report

To All Parents/Guardians,

I am delighted to enclose the Ofsted report of the Inspection of Windsor Boys’ School
on 12 May, 2008.

It is now official: WBS is an ‘outstanding’ school. I could not be more proud of the outcome. There are so few ‘outstanding’, Grade 1 schools, which makes it, even more of a privilege to be associated with WBS. Students, Staff and Governors deserve the ‘outstanding’ accolade so I urge you to read the detail.

Maria Dawes, HMI, set out a summary statement of different areas they were:
  Grade

Achievement & Standards 1 Outstanding
Teaching & Learning 1 Outstanding
Curriculum 1 Outstanding
Care, Guidance & Support 1 Outstanding
Personal Development & Well-Being 1 Outstanding
Leadership & Management 1 Outstanding
Overall Judgement 1 Outstanding

More detail is included in the report but this is a stunning report. It is summed up in two grades:

It is a very nice touch that Maria Dawes, HMI has written to our students in the way she has. Such was the impact of everyone of them!

There is still so much to do. The comment in my first newsletter some 11 years ago still rings true. WBS is no place for those who want a quiet life.

You will get a real flavour of this life at WBS from scrutinising the report. I hope you will scrutinize it. It makes for ‘outstanding’ reading and sees us well into the journey we continue to make as a school from ‘Good to Great’.

Yours sincerely

Mr JB Dawkins

SAM Learning

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you know, we are continuously evaluating ways to raise the achievements of our Learners. I'm pleased to announce that the school has recently subscribed to SAM Learning Secondary, a top quality eLearning service that has been proven to improve GCSE grades through GCSE exam practice and related work.

One of the key features of this service is that it can be accessed from virtually any computer with Internet access - and other schools who use it report significant usage outside the core school day. SAM Learning Secondary usually costs home users £99.99 per year, but our Learners now have unrestricted use of this service totally free of charge.

If you have a computer with Internet access at home, I hope you will allow it to be used to access this service, but if that is not possible, we will be making arrangements for access to computer time in school outside timetabled Task Hours, so that no-one is at a disadvantage. Of course, it is also possible that Learners may use SAM Learning Secondary from computers in other places such as libraries and community centres.

I realise you may have concerns about youngsters using the Internet, and may wish to establish your own family rules about where and when this is to be done.

To access the service at www.samlearning.com, Learners need three details:

Centre ID: SL4WB2
User ID: Date of birth followed by two initials; first name then last name.
Example: 010896DJ is the User ID for David Jones born 1st Aug 1996.
Password: Initially same as User ID.
Learners are encouraged to change this to something difficult to guess or work out.

We do hope that you will take full advantage of this service and thank you in anticipation of your support for this initiative.

Yours faithfully,
Mr T.Willis
Deputy Head
